Frequently Asked Questions
Q. After I have had my brakes repaired, do I need to have them adjusted?
If your vehicle has disc brakes on all four wheels, then no re-adjustment is needed. If your vehicle has a front disc/rear drum combination then adjustment is recommended. This will vary with the different vehicle models and driving conditions. Check with the location where you had your work done for the recommended re-adjustment interval. On most Budget Brake & Muffler Auto Centres brake system repairs, we provide this adjustment free of charge.
Regardless of which system your vehicle has, a brake inspection once a year insures a safe brake system.

Q. I was told that you must replace both front and rear brakes at the same time, is that the case?
No, not always. Typically the front brakes do the majority of the work and therefore will wear sooner than the rear brakes. We recommend a complete brake system inspection to find out what your vehicle needs.

Q. I can hear a rattling under my car that sounds like its coming from my muffler do I have to replace the entire exhaust system?
With today's exhaust systems it is unlikely you would have to replace the entire exhaust system.
This rattling sound could be caused by either internal or external components of the exhaust system. An inspection of the exhaust system would be required to determine the cause of the rattling sound. All Budget Brake & Muffler Auto Centres offer free exhaust system inspections.

Q. I have to pump my brakes to get my car to come to a complete stop, is that safe?
No, this is not safe. A low brake pedal, or pumping of the brake pedal can be remedied by a simple adjustment or may require a more extensive repair.
As this is an unsafe condition to operate your vehicle in, do not delay, have it inspected as soon as possible.

Q. I checked my oil the other day and there was sludge on the end of the dipstick, but the oil level was fine. Should I be concerned?
Yes! That is a sign that regular oil changes have not been preformed. One way to remove the sludge is with a hot oil flush, done at oil change time. A flush machine is hooked up to the engine and pumps through a special cleaner that removes the sludge but does not harm the inner workings of the engine.

Q. I think I need a tune up but I’m afraid you will replace more than what’s necessary?
Budget Brake & Muffler Auto Centres' trained technicians will only replace what your vehicle needs and will save the old parts for your inspection.

Q. My Check Engine light came on but I’m not sure what the problem is?
The engine light is turned on by the on-board computer that is monitoring all systems in the vehicle. On inspection, Budget Brake & Muffler Auto Centre's technicians will use a scanner or code reader to determine why the check engine light is on, and what repairs are required.

Q. Occasionally, I hear squealing coming from my engine especially when I rev my engine. What does this mean?
It could be that the engine drive belts are worn, or out of adjustment. It would require an inspection to know for sure.

Q. Regular oil changes, why are they important?
Oil changes are very important to the longevity and proper operation of your vehicles engine. Oil reduces friction, which in turn reduces heat. As the oil breaks down it loses its ability to lubricate, and dissipate heat, which will cause premature wear of engine components.
Come on in for an oil & filter change!

Q. What is the benefit of flushing your vehicles coolant system?
If engine coolant is not flushed at manufacturers recommended intervals it can break down and cause premature failure of your radiator, heater core and other components in the heating/ cooling system. We offer fluid flushes for all your vehicle's components!
